Understanding How Students Learn:
The Evidence-base, Cognitive Load Theory and Key Teaching Techniques.
Designed for Graduate teachers through to Deputy Principals
Overview: This workshop will support participants to understand how students learn and be empowered to embed evidence-informed teacher practices in their schools.
On the first day of the workshop, participants will analyse the evidence-base of evidence-informed teaching practices and the underlying principles of how students. The latter will include an overview of cognitive load theory and exploration that students must acquire a strong level of knowledge as a precursor to developing critical and creative thinking skills.
This is designed so participants have a strong understanding of how students learn, placing them in a better position to implement teaching techniques with fidelity. Participants will then explore the elements of different evidence-informed teaching practices and discuss how these look in different school settings.
Participants will end the day with a clear scaffold to support them to introduce and/or embed different evidence-informed teacher practices in their schools.
