Yipirinya School is a 'two way' Indigenous controlled School and is the only School in Australia to teach four indigenous languages. It promotes indigenous culture and caters for some of the most disadvantaged indigenous children in Australia who come from the town camps and outstations of Alice Springs. The School follows the Australian and Northern Territory curriculum teaching basic numeracy and literacy which is well supported by the culturally relevant Honey Ant Readers learning resource. The School also includes many enrichment programs such as The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, The Song Room, Bell Shakespeare, Money Smart, Bounce Back, Austswim and Kids Matter.
The School has an enrolment of approximately 200 students and approximately 50 staff members, over 50% of whom are Indigenous and involved in tertiary training programs. The School therefore is training Indigenous staff as well as students.
