As a member of Steiner Education Australia Milkwood offers Darwin the Nationally Accredited Steiner Curriculum as an alternative to the Australian & Northern Territory Curriculum Framework.
The teacher’s relationship with each child as they deliver this holistic curriculum in small classes makes us stand out in today’s education system. We must be what we want the children to be. This continuous professional and personal development is taken up freely through our teacher’s love of the content of the curriculum. We pride ourselves on nourishing and protecting childhood as we believe this foundation creates healthy, happy, human beings.
Gesture and imitation are important in the early years so that children learn how to use their will with reverence and continue to wonder at the natural world. This develops a love of learning that sees them through the academics taught between Class 1 -6, with acurriculum rich with beauty and the arts. Class 1 - 6 lessons are taught in 3- 4 weeks blocks so that students can immerse themselves in one theme at a time. They engage in listening and writing stories, quizzes, art (including but not limited to drawing, painting, sculpture, musical and drama), physical activity, gardening and more. Students graduate to local middle schools or interstate Steiner Schools.
“The need for imagination, a sense of truth and a feeling of responsibility - these are the three forces which are the very nerve of education”
