Gail Barker- Executive Director
Born and educated in Perth (Western Australia), Gail graduated with a Diploma of Teaching from the Mount Lawley Teachers College in 1976.
On her arrival in Darwin, Gail was employed by the Essington School Darwin where she continued in the roles of Teacher, Assistant Principal
and Principal until 1998. She continued her studies during this time and gained a Bachelor of Education and Graduate Certificate in Education from the Northern Territory University.
As Principal, Gail worked closely with the School Board to establish the primary and middle school, (including the introduction of a major information communication technology program). She was instrumental in establishing the Essington School as a Company Limited by Guarantee and the school joining the Association of Independent Schools of the Northern Territory.
She also took on the role of Secretary of that Association.
She joined the Association as Manager of Educational Programs in 1999. In this role, she managed the Australian Government Targeted Programs, represented the AISNT on various national and Northern Territory committees and has been involved in the implementation of Australian and Northern Territory Government initiatives.
Gail was appointed as Executive Director of the Association of Independent Schools of the Northern Territory in April 2007. In this role, she continues to provide professional guidance to the Association’s schools and teachers in a comprehensive range of professional areas and educational policy and legislative developments.
